It is my privilege to present you with “Driving
change: The Canadian Human Rights Commission’s 2023 Annual Report to Parliament,”
which was tabled in Parliament this week.
I invite you to read about our work to
promote and protect human rights at a time when complex, intersecting human
rights issues are at the forefront of public discussion, political debates, and
the national consciousness.
The Commission plays different human rights roles. We are an
advocate, a complaints screening body, an auditor, as well as home to
regulatory and advocacy functions in accessibility, pay equity, and housing.
Our 2023 Annual Report details the work we have done
assessing human rights complaints, representing the public interest in human
rights cases, cultivating human rights knowledge, holding Canada to its
international human rights commitments, and promoting a barrier-free Canada. It
also speaks to the work we have done to advance reconciliation,
anti-racism, and accessibility across our many roles.
The breadth of work and meaningful results detailed in this
Annual Report are a testament to the hard work of the diverse and
dedicated people who make up the Canadian Human Rights Commission.
